Sun Ten Ginseng
Sun Ten only use Raw Ginseng which has been established for six years. This is due to the total ginsenoside content being significantly higher when the plant has reached maturity of six years. Figure 1 looks at the correlation between the age of the Ginseng compared to the Ginsenoside content percentage.

Sun Ten demands strict quality control of all herbal plantations. The Ginseng plantation that Sun Ten utilise has low pesticide and no usage of raw Ginseng under the six year growth span.

Authenticity of Raw Herbs
To verify species authenticity and use of the correct plant part all raw herbs used by Sun Ten are authenticated by HPLC Chromatograms and pharmacognostic and histological comparison of correct plant parts.

The authenticity of herbs used is critical in determining the function of the herbal extracts. All herbs used are inspected twice. Firstly through sensory identification by experienced herb handlers and secondly through microscopic inspection and identification. Authenticity criteria are compiled in Sun Ten’s own Manual of Chinese Herbal Drug Materials which is an important reference for purchasing and inspection.

Ginsenoside

• High Performance liquid Chromotogrph (HPLC.): Coupled to different detector to detect: Diode Array (DAD): Bioactive ingredients.
• Chemical Analysis of Active Constituents - This can only be possible through the development of sophisticated chemical methods measuring the concentration of active constituents responsible for the therapeutic actions of the herbs. Sun Ten uses High Performance Liquid Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS) to analyse crude herbs and concentrated extracts to determine if they meet optimal therapeutic criteria.

Heavy Metals
