Ten Phytotech (STPT), a branch of the Research & Development Department
of Sun Ten Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, was founded in 2001 as a Taiwan herbal-based
biotechnology company. Drawing on Sun Ten’s Brion Research Institute’s
30 years of research into Traditional Chinese Medicine and the pre-existing
Sun Ten expertise in the areas of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control
of botanical drugs, STPT uses modern science to verify and evaluate
the safety, efficacy and biological mechanisms of herbal medicine, and
to develop new herbal medicine applications.
The established technical platforms provide the identification of authentic
plant species and the source of raw materials, the extraction processing,
Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) and Good Manufacturing Practices
(GMP) for clinical batch production and the evaluation of animal pharmacology,
toxicology, and pharmacokinetics / metabolism. Sun Ten Phytotech, being
accredited with Chinese National Laboratory Accreditation / International
Organisation for Standardisation ISO17025 in November 2004, is listed
as the government- recommended Contract Research Organisation that provides
six high-quality analytical services, including heavy metal analysis,
loss on drying, water-soluble extract, dilute ethanol-soluble extract,
total ash and acid-insoluble ash on botanical materials and preparations.
In the aspect of product development, STPT is currently developing a
number of novel single- and combined-formulated products derived from
traditional herbal medicines such as novel botanical drugs, functional
dietary and technologically-developed herbal products. STPT has successfully
established strategic collaborations with multinational biotechnology
companies, which include PhytoCeutica (USA) and Phytopharm (UK).
Sun Ten also established a fully-equipped pilot scale factory for pilot
scale production, chemical analysis, toxicity tests, stability tests
and quality control assessment. Sun Ten applies science and biotechnology
to bring Chinese herbal medicine to the international pharmaceutical
mainstream.
